What is youtube studio

YouTube Studio is where you keep track of your YouTube channel. It combines all of the capabilities and information you’ll need to operate your channel into one convenient location.

You’ll be able to upload and edit videos, manage live streams, examine analytics data on who’s watched your videos, read and respond to comments, and, of course, control your settings. If you’re a member of the YouTube Partner Program, there’s a section dedicated to monetization, as well as an audio library where you can get free music to use in your videos.

The best way to get there

You can go directly to studio.youtube.com or click on your profile image in the top right corner of any YouTube page to find the link under Your channel and Paid memberships.

The Dashboard is the first page you’ll see when you log in, and it’s designed similarly to popular content management systems like WordPress, with connections in the left column and a news feed, analytics, and quick access to crucial operations like video uploading in the right.

Video management

Because YouTube is all about videos, you’ll probably spend the most of your time on the Videos page when using YouTube Studio.

Uploads and Live are the two tabs, with Uploads referring to files you’ve uploaded yourself and Live referring to live feeds. You can filter your content by the date it was published, or by how many views, comments, or loves versus dislikes it received from both tabs. Any limits limiting the audience of your videos, as well as the visibility options, will be noted here.

The detail pages differ from the rest of the dashboard in that the left column is replaced with movie-specific navigation elements and a thumbnail from the video is displayed at the top of the column.

The page’s primary section is divided into two tabs: Basic and More options. You can alter the title, description, and add your own thumbnail photos from the Basic page if the ones YouTube automatically generates aren’t suitable. You’ll be able to control the display of your content as well as set audience limitations.

You can also add end screens and cards from this menu. End screens are little advertisements for other content that you can place at the end of a video, while cards are similar but appear as a small notification symbol in the upper right corner.

The Overview page displays graphs of the number of views, total number of hours watched, and people who have subscribed to your video.

There’s also a graph for real-time activity, so you can see how people are interacting with your video right now, as well as tables for likes vs. dislikes and audience retention, which is how well a video keeps people watching, i.e. do they watch it all the way through or leave to watch something else after a few seconds.

The Reach tab displays a graph that is similar to the Overview, but instead of views, it focuses on impressions. An impression is the number of times a video thumbnail appears on YouTube, with a view being recorded if someone clicks on the thumbnail to go to the video page.

The Reach tab also contains information on the sources of traffic. Was the video found through a YouTube search, suggested videos, another video playlist, or an external website?

A graph on the Engagement page focuses on viewing time in hours as well as average view duration. This tab also has the same tabs for audience retention and loves vs. dislikes.

The Audience tab provides you with more information about who is watching your videos, such as their age and gender, as well as their countries and languages.

You can trim your video if you wish to eliminate areas, add audio from the library of free music, and add elements that overlay on the movie from the Editor tab. Links to other videos, playlists, or channels are examples of this. You’ll be allowed to add links if you’re a Partner Program member. Below the link to the Editor page are connections to pages for Comments, where you can see all of the comments made on a video, including those that are being reviewed and those that have been flagged as spam, and Subtitles, where you may choose the language for subtitles.

Although the editing options are limited, if you want to build a successful YouTube channel, most of the more advanced editing elements would have been completed before uploading the video to YouTube in the first place.
